Music News

Well the Music Industry is still in the middle of making adjustments and changes trying to find just the right combination that keeps Artists making money, Fans satisfied, and the music biz wheels turning. Things have become quite liquid.

As far as what's new on the CSR front, we're now selling a hand-picked selection of CD Baby Audio CD's in our Online Storefront. We believe that the name recognition and reputation CD Baby has earned made this a great choice. Remarkably, they also offer a money-back guarantee as well!

We're considering adding individual track sales that are DRM-free as well. So far we like what Amazon.com is doing to lead the way in selling MP3's that play on any device. We hope you'll visit often to see in the next few weeks.

Amazon.com has picked up market share since they do not require special software applications, while Rhapsody to Walmart and even iTunes (every service that requires bloat-ware to be loaded on your PC and sells you tunes that work only on limited devices) are struggling.

As we kick off the year we noticed there are more and more opportunities for Artists to generate additional money even if it's by giving away music for free, believe it or not, since Advertising Revenue is finally being shared with Bands for their content. This may be the way of the future for Arists and Fans should check this out as well especially if you have a lot of friend request and visits to your page(s).

We made an exciting discovery already this year. We found a Social Networking Site (like MySpace) that's great for Fans and Bands alike! It actually rewards page hits to Music Fan pages and Band pages. So earn yourselves a piece of the ever growing Advertising Revenue pie. The concept is this: You put up the content and set up your page that generated the page visits, why shouldn't you get paid some of the cash those hits generate!

2007 in Review

Since 2008 has only just begun we'll do a brief recap of the business in 2007 for now.

The saddest part of 2007 was, in our opinion, when the revolutionary company Weedshare.com decided to suspend operations indefinitely. This was a brilliant legal file sharing structure that paid the Artist first, then the sharing Fans, and kept 15% for themselves for processing payments. It allowed for three plays before disabling the tune from further plays unless paid for.

The strangest news from 2007 was when everybody found out that Vista and WMP 11 had some major DRM issues to iron out and some distributors decided to do away with Digital Rights Management altogether! Ironically it was the MS named "PlaysForSure" format that so many vendors worked their products to conform to that actually proved to PlayNoMore after the new OS came out leaving them high and dry.

Perhaps the most frustrating struggle in '07 for us personally was the efforts to shut down small Webcasters and Internet Radio by SoundExchange and the CRB with some insane retroactive royalty fee increase that would surely bankrupt and silence the majority of stations online. Even Yahoo, AOL are to abandon Web Radio should apathy prevail and the new rates become enforced.  Music Fans and Indie Bands unite! Visit SaveNetRadio.org today.

In case you hadn't heard the RIAA is still bringing suit to college students, thirteen year olds, and most recently convinced a jury to award $222,000 for a single mom having tunes on her PC that were ripped from her legitimately purchased CD collection. There was no need to prove she actually shared the files illegally, just the fact that she had them on her computer, and had Kaaza installed, was enough.

Although physical CD sales have dipped by approximately 20% annually during the last seven years it's not all bad news. Many Bands and Artists discovered that diversification was the key in 2007 and it certainly rings true as we start off the new year. For example, some have submitted their works to libraries that are reviewed for Television and Movie use. If you haven't already done so you might consider setting up a ringtones Widget, or start offering t-shirts, and mugs on your page(s) so fans who really want to show their support can pick up some Band Swag.

Others have learned that when it comes to the Internet, more is better. Google rankings are higher when there are more reciprocal hyperlinks to and from your web pages. We learned this early on for the benefit of our Participating Artists. New potential Fans need to be able to find you and CSR Radio and our web site are here to help.

Chemistry Set Records and all of the CSR Family would like to wish everybody the best success in '08. Visit often for frequent Music News updates that impact both Music Consumers and Bands and Artists alike..
